NEW DELHI: A wanted criminal escaped from police custody on Thursday afternoon after a shooting in front of the GTB hospital in East Delhi, the police said.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. when the 3rd Delhi Police Battalion took gangster Kuldeep aka Fajja to the hospital for treatment in OPD, a senior police officer said.
“In front of the hospital building, five people came in a scorpion car and a motorcycle and shot the third police battalion to release the defendant from police custody,” he said.
During the encounter, one assailant died on the spot and one was injured while one was caught by police. The remaining defendants, including Kuldeep, fled, police said.
